Dream destinations and dream vacations are nowadays an integral part of the urban Indian families’ “To- Do List”. The intent is to get away from the hum-drum and daily grind of the fast-paced modern life. Far-away destinations are at times the perfect remedy for aching hearts, fatigued minds and weary souls!
Whilst you are enjoying your much-coveted vacation, it is also important to stay connected with reality, lest the bubble of your excitement bursts. In spite of detailed planning, there can still be an unforeseen situation or an emergency while you are overseas.
God forbid, you may lose your passport or travel documents, your cash may be stolen, there could be a medical emergency….or some issue with local authorities. Much as we hate to admit it, it can happen to anyone of us.
Wouldn’t it be great if you could be armed in advance with information that can help you in such situations? Well, a few simple things can help …Do some research on the internet and find out the location, address and other contact details of your country’s embassy or consulate in the country you visit. Find out their operational days and timings and how to reach out to them during off hours as well. After all, emergencies come without warning and don’t conform to a time schedule!
Another smart move would be to register your contact details with your embassy in your native country prior to your travel so that you can be contacted in situations like an emergency being declared in the country etc.
These small measures can help you leave your anxieties at bay so you can make the most of your trip.
