Connecting People and Culture – Great Wall of China
The Great Wall of China was built to keep the enemies of the Mig Dynasty at bay. Emperor Qin Shi Huang built the wall to prevent raids from invaders. Apart from defence, the other major objective was controlling borders thus preventing a free movement of trade and people. And Airbnb taking note of this came up with this amazing campaign that describes the wall as “a redefined boundary that connects people and culture”. The idea to put the Great Wall on its platform is to celebrate the symbolic joining of people from around the world while highlighting the rich Chinese heritage and culture. If it sounds like a place you want to explore, then travellers must describe “why it is more important now than ever to break down barriers between cultures, and how they would want to build new connections through this experience.”
The four winners will enjoy a day and night of events between 4 and 7 September. Each winner will get to spend a night on the Great Wall. This will include having a sunset dinner, a classical music concert and a calligraphy experience. Also included is a sunrise hike through the Chinese countryside, and learn about the history of the wall and protection efforts from an official historian.
